One of the links in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis is the oxidative stress - activation of free radical processes due to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Important source of endogenous ROS are leukocytes. Generated is of free radicals, peroxides accumulate in foci of inflammation, especially in massive cell death, and have a prooxidant effect on the vascular endothelium, lipoproteins and hemocyte.
